Have you ever wanted to experience sailing on a pirate ship? Maybe having a few drinks, sailing into the sunset off of the coast of a South American country? Well, you can!
Meet La Fantastica Cartagena!
I am the only tourist to have climbed this high on the pirate ship!
La Fantastica Cartagena is a boat tour company that owns and operates a real-life replica pirate ship. It pays homage to the founding of Cartagena having been based on piracy. They offer a variety of tours, and they operate daily in Cartagena. My girlfriend Bella actually surprised me with a sunset tour with them, and it truly was an amazing experience.

Here's how the tour goes:
First of all, you're welcomed onto the pirate ship. I usually get fairly seasick when it comes to being on boats that just rock in the water, but I didn't feel sick at all on this boat, likely because it's a fairly sizeable ship.
Once you're onboard, you take a seat anywhere on the ship while the tour guides and captain introduce themselves. Shortly after, the boat tour begins, and the ship sets sail!
As you leave the port, the captain begins his historically-based storytelling about the city, some prominent buildings and features of the local area, and cracks some jokes. The vibe is super chill and it's a great time.
At the same time, some members of the crew start serving drinks - an alcoholic fruit punch style drink that is included in your tour purchase and comes with unlimited refills. The drink tastes great; it's fairly sweet and has lemonade and rum.
The cup they give you has a removeable lid, and has a swiveling mouth piece to protect the cup from spilling from the waves. Plus, you get to keep the cup after the tour!

Once you're a bit farther out to sea, the captain lets everyone know that you're free to walk around, climb about on the boat, and take photos!

You can even take over the wheel for the pirate ship! (it's a fake steering wheel lol).
Anyways, after you've had your fun out on the water, it's time to come back. The sunset tour is about an hour and a half, and the other tours they offer vary in length.
If you're ever in Cartagena or planning to visit, make sure you hit up La Fantastica Cartagena. I promise, you won't regret the experience of sailing around Cartagena in a pirate ship. Who knows, maybe you can be the second ever tourist to climb to the top of the crow's nest, after me ;)
If you are going to climb, be careful. There are no harnesses and the winds are very, very strong. So here's my disclaimer: don't do it. :)
